Saskatoon Physical Therapist Laurie Wiens, has been practicing Physical Therapy for over 25 years in Saskatchewan.

She is passionate about her work and wants to help you get back to the things you love to do. Pain and loss of mobility can have a huge impact on your life, and can lead to other health problems.

Laurie believes in the importance of listening to your concerns with respect, and working together with you to meet your treatment goals – whether your goals are getting back to your favourite leisure activities, getting back to work, or even living without pain and dysfunction.

This will start with a full individualized assessment to help determine the cause of your pain, and will look at your signs and symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. Treatments may include a combination of hands-on therapy, acupuncture, GTT – a form of dry needling, ultrasound, K-tape, individualized exercise programs and education.

Combining the practices of Eastern and Western Medicine, Laurie uses her Acupuncture training along with other Physical Therapy techniques to treat a variety of conditions, in order to assist clients to reach their goals for recovery. Laurie strives to provide a high standard of care that is both compassionate and client-focused.

Laurie has spent most of her career working in a Rural setting, which has provided her with experience in treating a wide variety of health conditions. She has specialized in treating mostly orthopedic problems – Some examples of this would be post-surgery or fracture, injury, back and neck pain, tendinopathy, joint pain and inflammation. Education and exercise prescription are an important part of her Physical Therapy management of health conditions- for example chronic health conditions such as osteoporosis, COPD, and arthritis can be managed to provide a better quality of life.

She graduated with a Bachelor in Medical Rehabilitation – P.T. from the University of Manitoba in 1990 and over the years has continued to update her treatment skills and knowledge. She obtained her AFCI certification in Acupuncture in 2002, and is a registered member of Acupuncture Canada. She has attended further Acupuncture education, and is trained in GTT acupuncture, which is a form of dry needling used to treat myofascial pain, and tight muscles. Laurie has her Level 1 K- tape Certification which has many applications – it can be used to help with painful joints, muscle injuries and tension, as well as swelling. K-tape can be a beneficial addition to other forms of treatment.

Laurie grew up in Saskatoon, and is excited to be part of the Saskatoon Wellness Centre, and to practice as a Physical Therapist in Saskatoon. She and her husband have four adult children. She enjoys reading, writing, time with family , golfing and the outdoors.
